It’s a 2-step process as you first create the background out of which you’ll diecut the birdie, and then you create the tag. If you only have bits and pieces of time one day but still want to create something, then this is a great little project. I had 15 minutes extra time before going to work one day last week and created the yellow background with watercolor markers. I then finished the tag after coming home from work that same day (while my husband was cooking us dinner :)!
For the birdie, I used a mix of 6 different yellow watercolor markers to create the background. Note that I did not use watercolor paper, just a heavier smooth cardstock paper. When not using too much water, you can get great results!
I choose a dark colored and sturdy paper for the base of the tag as I wanted the happy yellow bird to pop out. Next I stamped the base with a flourish to break its monotone color.
For the second layer of paper (with the sentiment), I cut out a square with the smallest of the three cut and pierce die sets. I like how the pierced edge instantly finishes that layer of paper! I decided to stamp the sentiment in the upper right corner of this layer. Stamp the sentiment before you adhere this layer to the base (just in case you have to try twice to get it right, like me :))
Before gluing down the pierced square I added a leafy flourish. I only used a dot of glue at the bottom of the flourish (hidden underneath the pierced square) and one at the top (the part with the two big leaves).
You create the birdie by using both dies, the die with the delicate design of swirls and embossing plus the die with the solid silhouette shape, from the Tweets set. Adhere them together with only a dot of glue on the large solid piece of the delicate bird diecut.
Finish the tag with some bling! The green gemstones help balance out the green leafy flourish against the earth tones used in the rest of the materials of the tag.
Have a wonderful week everyone! :)
